Delicate Arch

If you’ve ever seen a Utah license plate, you’ve likely seen Delicate Arch. Delicate arch is the most famous arch in Utah. This is the main attraction at Arches National Park. It’s a little over 3 miles there and back. We tend to visit in the colder months of the year and the hike is fairly easy. My kids enjoy walking along the rocks that line the path and avoiding the “lava”. There is one main incline that spans a few hundred yards, but overall, the trail is fairly flat. The last part of the trail leads along the edge of a small cliff and the arch sits in a bowl-like canyon that requires some angled walking. While walking along the small cliff, you can see a small arch up the wall about halfway. There’s a path to climb up and view the Arch from within this smaller arch. It makes for some great pictures. Once you reach Delicate Arch, people tend to create a line at the arch for pictures. Joining the line will be your best chance for a “uncrowded” picture.

I’ve seen some amazing pictures of sunrises, sunsets and the night sky using the whole in the arch as a frame. Because the park is open 24 hours, there are a number of prime times to hike to the arch.
