Thessaloniki, Greece

From Athens, we rode a train to Thessaloniki, which took about 4 hours. We choose economy class which was fairly comfortable with not too many people onboard. There are bathrooms and a train car with food and drinks. The ticket was under $50 for adults and about half that for children. The food and drinks onboard were also reasonably priced. My kids and I enjoyed the croissant with Nutella which we purchased onboard.

For me, Thessaloniki is not overly impressive. The highlights for me were the accommodations, the port, and the loukoumades.

C.1 Elia Old_Town

C.1 Elia Old_Town is an older building that has been renovated but has still kept its history. The walk to the house is uphill and the roads are not easy to navigate for pedestrians. The building has 3 floors with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, laundry, kitchen and dining. We found it on Booking.com, but there may be a direct site.

Port of Thessaloniki

The main attraction in Thessaloniki is the port, which is also the main tourist hub of the city. Accordingly, the majority of shopping, dining, and souvenirs are located here. If you are near the port, you can see the White Tower down along the bay. Like most old structures, the White Tower has served multiple purposes, and it is currently a museum.

Food

While the food wasn’t as good as Athens, I did enjoy the feshly made loukoumades and I did finally find domas to try.
