Sand Dune, Broken, and Tapestry Arch

From the Sand Dune Arch parking lot, you can hike to 3 different arches: Sand Dune, Broken, and Tapestry Arch. Sand Dune Arch is a short walk from the parking lot, while Broken Arch requires a little over a mile roundtrip. If you’d like to see all 3 arches, including Tapestry Arch, you can expect to hike about 3 miles. The loop from Broken Arch to Tapestry arch provides some stunning and picturesque views along the trail. All routes are relatively flat with a low amount of difficulty.

Sand Dune Arch

The closest Arch and the ones kids tend to find the most enjoyable is Sand Dune Arch. It’s less than a half mile hike to a sand playground with an overlooking arch. The area tends to be shaded and a little cooler, so dress a little warmer. You enter through a slot canyon to sand that is soft and cool to the touch. There are plenty of rocks to climb and the soft sand makes a fairly comfortably “landing” area. If you’re skilled, you can climb up around the back of the arch (starting on the right-hand side) and loop around to the other side.

Broken Arch

After spending time at Sand Dune Arch, head back to the crossroads and make your way to Broken Arch. It gets its name from the crack running down the middle of the arch. The hike to this arch is flat and you can see the arch from crossroads. You can take pictures from both sides of the arch and afterwards head off towards Tapestry Arch.

Tapestry Arch

This was the first time we hiked to Tapestry Arch. Once you pass through Broken Arch, you are on the trail to Tapestry Arch. Getting to Tapestry Arch requires a little more effort as the path is less flat and weaves through boulders. Tapestry Arch, like Broken Arch, can be seen from far away. Once the arch comes into view, there’s still a good walk to get up to the arch.

After visiting the Tapestry, you can head back the way you came or head towards the nearby campground which reconnects to the Broken Arch path. I’d recommend the campground option, as there are flushing toilets if you need to a break. After reaching the campground, you’ll head down towards the loop and cut through the middle of the loop to reach the trail. The trail winds through a canyon and back towards the parking lot.
